Merging and splitting trips
Available in: 📱 App
Sometimes a trip gets broken into two parts — for example when you stopped briefly to refuel, or RideDetect treated a break as the end of the trip. You can merge such related trips into a single trip — and split them again at any time.
Merging trips
- Open one of the two trips (e.g. via the Trips tab of your vehicle) and tap Edit
- Tap Merge trips at the bottom
- RideBase shows you all compatible trips — tap the trip you want to merge with
- Confirm the "Merge trips?" dialog with Merge
You'll also find the Merge action directly on each trip in the screen with the unassigned trips.
:::info When are trips compatible? Two trips can be merged if:
- both have GPS coordinates for start and destination,
- the end point of one trip and the start point of the other are at most 5 km apart,
- the break between the trips is at most 4 hours.
If there's no suitable trip, the app reports: "No compatible trips found (max. 5 km, max. 4 h break)". :::
What happens when merging?
The individual trips become one new, merged trip:
| Data | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Distance | Sum of the individual distances |
| Start/destination | Start of the first trip, destination of the last |
| Odometer readings | Starting reading of the first trip, final reading of the last |
| Route | Both routes are joined into one track |
| Notes | Are appended to each other |
| Tags | Are combined |
| Attachments/photos | Move along to the merged trip |
The original individual trips are not lost — they're only hidden and are restored when you split the trip again.
You can recognize merged trips in the trip list by the chain icon (🔗); in the web portal they carry the "Zusammengeführt" (merged) badge.
Splitting trips again
- Open the merged trip and tap Edit
- Tap Split trips at the bottom
- Confirm the "Split trips?" dialog with Split
The original individual trips are restored and the merged trip is deleted. No data is lost.
Merging is reversible at any time — so you can safely try out whether two trips belong together.
