Trip purpose
Available in: ๐ฑ App ยท ๐ป Web portal
Every trip gets a purpose. That keeps your logbook tidy โ and it's the basis for analyzing and exporting business and private kilometers separately.
The three purposesโ
| Purpose | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Business | Trips for work or your business |
| Commute | Your regular way to work |
| Private | Everything else |
You pick the purpose when creating or editing a trip via the selection chips โ and in the same way when assigning an automatically detected RideDetect trip.
:::info Business trips and organisations If you choose Business and are a member of an organisation, you can additionally assign the trip to an organisation. Read more under Organisations. :::
Why this matters for taxesโ
In the logbook export you can filter specifically by purpose (business, commute, private) and include the Purpose column โ so you cleanly separate business and private kilometers for your tax return. The statistics also break down your trips by Trip Purpose.
"Only for me": secret tripsโ
For a private trip, the additional option Only for me (lock icon) appears. When it's enabled, you are the only one who sees this trip:
- On shared vehicles, the trip stays completely invisible to other people โ regardless of which trip visibility you've otherwise granted them
- Administrators of an organisation don't see it either
- In your own logbook and export, the trip remains included as usual
:::tip Trip visibility on shared vehicles Independently of "Only for me", on shared vehicles you define per person which trip purposes they're allowed to see at all. How that works is explained under Sharing vehicles with others. :::
Setting the purpose automatically (automations)โ
Under Profile โ Automations you can create rules that automatically assign incoming trips to a vehicle โ and set the trip purpose at the same time (including Only for me (secret)). The available conditions are:
- Data source (RideDetect, Strava, Apple Health, Health Connect)
- Time of day and weekday (e.g. weekdays 06:00โ07:00 โ Commute)
- Start location (GPS radius)
- Distance and duration
Rules are applied by priority โ the first matching rule wins. You change the order by dragging and dropping.
