Setting up RideDetect (iOS)
Available in: ๐ฑ App
On the iPhone, RideDetect needs one thing above all: location access set to "Always". The app guides you through all the required prompts when you enable it and explains what's coming before each system dialog.
Enabling RideDetectโ
- Open your Profile (person icon at the top of the dashboard).
- In the Data collection section, tap RideDetect.
- Turn on Enable RideDetect.
- The app explains location access โ in the iOS dialog, tap "While Using the App".
- Right after that, the app asks for background location โ in the iOS dialog, tap "Always Allow". Only with this setting are trips detected while the app is closed.
- Check that the Automatic switch is also turned on โ it makes sure the start of a trip is detected in the background.
If you skipped a step, the app shows this in the RideDetect settings and offers Grant permission or Open settings.
Setting location to "Always" laterโ
If you didn't grant the permission at first:
- Open the iOS Settings
- RideBase โ Location
- Select Always
:::tip Background App Refresh Make sure that Background App Refresh is enabled for RideBase in the iOS settings, so the app can work reliably in the background. :::
Testing detectionโ
After setup, simply take a normal drive (a few kilometers):
- Shortly after you set off, the notification "RideDetect is recording your trip." appears โ due to system constraints, detection only kicks in after a few minutes (typically 2โ5), so the first roughly 1โ2 kilometers may be missing.
- When you arrive: park the vehicle and wait a few minutes (or simply walk away).
- The notification "Trip saved" appears with the distance โ you'll find the trip in the logbook or under Unassigned Activities.
If detection doesn't work, see Troubleshooting. How the trip is automatically matched to the right vehicle is explained under Vehicle assignment.
