Counter type & odometer readings
Available in: π± App Β· π» Web portal
Not every vehicle counts kilometers: a tractor counts operating hours, a bicycle often has no counter at all. That's why you set the counter type when adding a vehicle β it determines how RideBase calculates mileage, maintenance intervals, and statistics.
The three counter typesβ
In the "Odometer" wizard step, under "What type of counter does this Ride have?", you pick one of three options:
| Counter type | Who it's for | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Odometer | cars, motorcycles | trips record the start and end mileage |
| Operating hours counter | tractors, construction machinery | runtime is recorded in hours |
| No counter | e.g. bicycles | total kilometers are calculated automatically from the sum of all tracked trips |
:::warning A one-time decision The wizard explicitly warns you: "This setting cannot be changed later!" So choose the counter type carefully. :::
Matching the counter type, in the "Details" step you enter the "Mileage at acquisition" or "Operating hours at acquisition" β the starting value RideBase calculates from.
Recording a readingβ
Entering the current reading every now and then keeps your vehicle up to date β even without logging every single trip.
- Open your vehicle and tap the "+" button ("Add Entry")
- Choose "Odometer" (for operating-hours vehicles: "Operating Hours")
- Check date and time, enter the current reading
- Optionally add "Notes" and attachments (e.g. a photo of the dashboard)
- Save β the entry appears in the timeline
RideBase checks your input for plausibility: a reading that is lower than a later entry will be flagged.
:::info Vehicles without a counter With the "No counter" type there is no "Odometer" entry β the mileage is derived automatically from your trips. :::
In the web portalβ
In the web portal, the vehicle page also has the "Eintrag hinzufΓΌgen" (add entry) button with the "Kilometerstand" (odometer reading β "Aktuellen Stand erfassen", record the current reading) or "Betriebsstunden" (operating hours) entry.
What RideBase calculates from itβ
- Current reading: the newest value in each case (from reading entries and trips) is your vehicle's current mileage or operating hours reading.
- Maintenance due dates: service plans use the current reading to calculate how many kilometers or hours remain until the next service.
- Component wear: mounted components accumulate the kilometers or hours driven.
- Statistics: mileage and evaluations in the "Statistics" tab β see Statistics.
:::tip Set up a reminder RideBase can remind you regularly to enter the current odometer reading β handy if you don't record every trip. More under Reminders. :::
